Mind F*cked was reviewed by Dark Divas Review!!!

Jen’s Review: Mind F*cked is one of the funniest and most heartfelt books I’ve read this year. I know funny and heartfelt don’t sound like things that go together. It’s like saying something was hysterically poignant and that just can’t be right, but it works in this book. I laughed all the way through Mind F*cked and my heart still went out the each of the characters as they struggled to figure out their future. I just wanted to grab Sage and give him a big ‘ole hug, when I wasn’t laughing my butt off at something he just said.

Mia Watts is an author that makes this combination of emotions work very well. I’m not sure that any other writer that I’ve read recently has been able to accomplish this with such a realistic quality; one or the other of those qualities, but not usually both. The characters felt so real that they jumped off the page to greet me. Sage and Joe were so true to life and honest in their responses that I couldn’t help but fall in love with them on each and every page.

My final verdict on Mind F*cked: Mia Watts has done it again! She’s delivered a winner, and I’ll be very excited to read the next in her Faerily Imperfect Series.

the countdown is on

Authors have grown silent. Yahoo groups have fewer commenters. What's happening? RomantiCon. This weekend is the first annual RomantiCon in Ohio where authors of one publishing house meet their readers and other authors. Most of the authors also write for other houses, but this one is strictly about Jasmine Jade (formerly Ellora's Cave). There are classes for those yet to be published as well as the more seasoned writing veterans. Dinners, giveaways, male cover models, and places to meet are provided to all attendees. Are you going?

If not, don't worry! This is October and the countdown for winter season gift giving. Contests and giveaways are everywhere on the internet right now. The best one I know of is being hosted by Dark Divas. Click that link for details.

What's in the grab-bag? Take a look and then ask yourself one question... Has Mia Watts already posted her telltale graphic? Hm? Has she??

more free stuff

There's going to be a huge, multi-author contest for free goodies this Halloween. Check out the prizes and contributors at DarkDivaReviews. Yes, I'm among them. I'm in excellent company, don't you agree?

For my part, one winner will receive a free download of any current title available as of October 31st (which will include: Claimed by Darkness, Sex Ed, Bad Boys Bad Boys, and Mind F*cked) as well as a two pack prize of perfume oils I had designed for me. There's a story behind that and I'll get to it in a second, but "Mia" and "Mia Afterdark" in roll-on application viles will be sent to the winner. Be sure to check out the contest which will begin October 1st.

The story: All perfumes go sweet on me. Sickeningly so and most fragrances make me sneeze. Soap and shampoo have always been my only scent, yet my nieces love the scent of vanilla in my hair. I do also. I had an internet scent wizard create a combination of my favorites using my specified high notes, low notes, and base notes (I'm an instinctive cooker and have an excellent feel for what works together) which she did. I purchased a ready made scent by the perfumer as well.

I loved my fragrance and wear it daily. My nieces and selected males I allow close enough, find reasons to get close for a sniff. I find it amusing actually. One day, I mixed the designed scent with the purchased scent and discovered that I loved it also. I promptly had the perfumer mix my scent to hers and found the perfect percentage to create a new one. Hence "Mia", my regular usage perfumed oil, and "Mia Afterdark" for those naughty sexy moments when I'm still me, just amped up for play.

Both fragrances will be included as part of the winning prize. I hope you like them as much as I do. And for those interested, the perfumer has agreed to make both scents available to others upon request as part of an "exclusive" collection. More on that later. If you order, simply request "Mia" or "Mia Afterdark" in the notes portion of the purchase to identify the scents you like.

A Review by DarkDivas:
Ms. Watt's has shown herself to be exceptionally talented and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next. Rated 4 1/2 Delightful Divas by Jen!

Bad Boys, Bad Boys by Mia Watts draws you in from the very first paragraph. I haven't read a book in quite a while that can do that within the first few lines. Immediately, you wanted to know more about each of the main characters, Geo and Mack. Geo's emotions are so vivid that you instantly feel his anxiety, apprehension and frustration and the same holds true for Mack when you get to know him. This intensity of writing allowed me to cheer for both characters throughout this book. I felt as if I had a vested interest in their happily ever after.

I usually find that shorter books fail to contain a certain depth to them. It's usually a quick jaunt or a short romp between the characters which can be fun but is seldom emotionally satisfying. It makes sense really because there is, in all actuality, less room to bring those character's emotions to life. Mia Watts fought this pattern in Bad Boys, Bad Boys and with seemingly no effort at all has shattered my preconceptions about shorter books. That, readers, is impressive! We, as readers, pop into Mack and Geo's lives and see their drama play out. It involves fear, frustration, stakeouts, shootouts, work-related drama and still Ms. Watt's manages to convey enough of the inner workings of Mack and Geo for me to be completely satisfied with the ending. Would I like to read more about them? Sure, but this book is complete for me because there was enough emotion and evolution to make the ending believable. A sequel would be wonderful. I, for one, wouldn't turn down an opportunity to see what is going on in Mack and Geo's lives and find out how they take those next steps and what trouble they can get into. But, it would be a new book and not one to tie up loose ends. This book leaves the reader satisfied all on its own. I can't even explain how nice that is to see in a book, any book, especially one that is 61 pages long.

THANK YOU, JEN!! And for those of you who are interested, I am in discussion with my editor about a sequel for Geo and Mack tentatively titled, Reasonable Doubt. I'll keep you posted on what transpires.
