The actual piercings ala Rudis

Apparently my right ear was a little swollen by the time he finished piercing it. I had the two bottom ones first but they'd closed up. I'm allergic to everything, except surgical steel--it seems. He had to take a needle to the bottom holes and reopen them for both ears. It's pretty painless.

Can't say the same for the daith piercing. Ow. Owie. Ouchero. All come to mind with that one. It felt like he'd taken a rusted, barbed fishing hook, curled it into my daith and wanted to rip my ear off my head with dangling surrounding tissue from that one extraction site. I wanted to puke. Bron kept asking if I was okay.

I'm just saying, it hurt a wee bit. Oddly, once the piercing was in, no more pain. I was amazed.
The next picture is my left ear. I think he called those anti-rook piercings. I love them! They hurt a lot less going in, but hurt a little more than the lobes. I wanted them there because A) they look AWESOME, 2) they are on the inner curve of the ear and therefore don't get caught on things like hair brushes and fingers and iii) because they look AWESOME.

Also, Rudis said he'd never done three in a row like that before, so he actually took a picture of it for his photo album. Which I think is totally cool. I was his first. Awww. Hey, Rudis? Can you send me that picture you promised?

Don't they look great? They don't even really bother me to sleep on even though they are new and tender. He did tell me there's a 25-30% rejection rate here and the cartilage may push the piercing out. If that happens he can re-pierce behind the scar tissue and it has a better chance of staying put. I'm going back through Grand Rapids in September on my way to the AAD convention in New Jersey. If it falls out by then, I'll make sure my layover time is sufficient to have him take care of that for me.

This experience was phenomenal. The pre and post piercing care was so gentle and thorough that it actually took more time than the piercings themselves.

So them's the actual ones. What do you think? I love them.

Glad you're happy with them:) I would have made him stop if the pain was that bad. Sorry; I'm a needle wuss...had my ears pierced at 14 with the gun, and when I attempted five years later to add 2nd holes, the cartiledge rebelled violently, so I just let them grow back. I have a nickel allergy, and can only wear gold and stainless steel for a few hours before my ears turn red. Can't even wear hypo-allergenic, go figure! Spent my teenage years coating my earrings with clear nail polish; still didn't work.

Very cool. Like Molly, I'm allergic and I can't wear anything longer than a few hours.
I was around 12 when I had mine pierced with the gun. Never went back for more. My daughters on the other hand are not afraid of getting pierced - belly button and their ears, like yours. Not the daith. OUCH!!!!

Bron's presence kept me from chickening out. I'm bad with pain. I just kinda figured that if I sat still and didn't pass out, I was doing okay. So apparently, I did okay. :)

Also, I'm allergic to everything metal too. Even gold. The difference is that Rudis used Surgical Steel with zero nickle content. He said that a lot of Surgical Steel and Stainless Steel products have a low percentage of nickle in them. These had none and is why he used them. I haven't had a problem at all. Aside from the soreness of healing, I'm doing really well with them.

Oh yeah, and also, he said that needle piercing is less traumatic than the gun which just randomly shoots into the tissue and bruises it. I know the idea of the needle is freaky, but it's not like you can see it happen and I didn't look at them before hand either. It didn't hurt like the throbbing sting from the gun. Needles are definitely the way to go for the wimp girl.

You did such a great job, honey and they look faboo. I'm soooooooooo jealous of the anti-rooks, but I have so little available real estate left on my ears... I'll just enjoy yours. :)

Mia Watts said...

thanks! Your realestate is limited but oh so shiny!

Okay... So Bron had given me the play-by-play already, but girl... those are some hot looking ears... but I happen to know those hot ears belong to an equally hot lady... way to go. Very jealous.

I've got the belly button thing going on, and I have to say... it hurt like a XXX****XXX. It's all cool now, but at the time, man...never again.

I'm trying to save my pain tolerance up for a shiny tattoo...

congrats on the new 'additions'

hugs,

@ Kris. Seriously? Sexy ears? I think you're dreamin' honey. First it's the sexy voice, now it's the ears? Tell you what. Next time I talk to you on the phone, pull up these photos and I'll make sure I get slow and husky just for you. LOL.
