Once more with feeling.

I can't say I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth, I think that's overkill. In fact, it's not true since my folks started off flat broke. What I can say is, I grew up in enormous homes with servants, drivers, 24 hour guard service, and a ton of private schools. We went to Europe at least once a year for extended vacations and I have no college debt.

I let you know that I'd been through a divorce recent-ish. So when I wound up on my own for the first time in... ever, actually... you can imagine that there might be a lot of things I've never done before. Trust me when I say that it's intimidating.

I'm not incompetent or anything, I cook with mad skillz. I clean really well. I'm super organized. I do my laundry and don't let it pile up (all things, by the way, that I had to learn. Servants, cooks, take care of all that). So facing some of the new issues as an adult, well, I wish I'd learned at a younger age.

All that to say.... OMG! I'm so proud of me!!!! Two weeks ago, I replaced a shower head from a plain nozzle to a hose, rain water type one without a single hitch! Three days ago, I fixed a GAS LEAK in my new house. Yes, that's what I did. The gas people came out to check my work and said that the type of leak I had would have blown up my new house. Me in it. Whew. It involved threading things through walls, lost of dust bunnies and heavy appliances. Yay me!!

Today, I learned how to put air in my tires. Hey, don't knock it. Everything takes learning. But I did it! I also covered my outdoor a/c unit properly and bound it down, replaced two furnace filters, weather stripped my doors, AND (OMG AND) installed a freakin' doorbell!!!

I feel like doing my nieces' thumb dance: "Who has two thumbs and is proud of me? ME!!!!"

Next on the agenda--and more things I've never done before--changing out the front door lock and bolt, putting up curtain rods, and possibly building a small shelf. I'm on top of my mole hill!!! Look at my HUGE SHADOW OF AWESOMENESS!

*Pardon the boasting. Normally, this is way out of my comfort zone, but I have no one here to shout to but you. :) My online family.*

:) Thank you!

I have this philosophy I live by. It's that if there is a job out there that is humanly possible to do, whether skilled labor or otherwise, I can learn to do it too.

Maybe not well, but by George, I'm gonna learn it and keep working it until it's right. ;)

Go you! How awesome. I don't think I'd attempt the gas thingy. I give you lots of credit.

You should be proud, it's a tough thing what you are doing! The best thing about having to do this kind of work (I went through the divorce, on my own, with two kids and no one else to do it so that left me, so I learned how, experience) is that you get to have lots and lots of tools, power tools even. I love me some power tools. LOL Congratulations!

I never doubted you could do it. The hunk was gone 18 months once, leaving me at home with four kids. It's amazing what you can learn if you're willing to try!

Congratulations!

Oh, congrats! I love it and hate it when people learn how to do things for themselves. I mean, I'm proud of them and glad they're capable of things. But at the same time, I'm sad because now I can't do it for them anymore. I liked being able to do things other people couldn't. But I had to go be all noble and teach them how themselves.

Sigh. Being a hero is so hard.
