Fan Mail

Every so often a fan writes. I love these moments because they don't happen often for any author, but when they do, it validates the hard work we put into our passion. I sometimes wonder if readers think authors are untouchable, shouldn't be contacted. For the number of reviews and ratings we get on various sites, you'd think there would be more. I'm here to tell you that there aren't.

If you love someone's work, tell them. It makes their day a lot brighter. In fact, most times an author will post your letter to other authors in their publishing circle. Your name and email address are protected, but seeing fan mail makes us all smile and cheer her on.

So, if you have a favorite author you've been meaning to send a note out to, I'm here to encourage you to do it. You aren't laughed at, you're cheered. Your letter is probably saved in a special email folder for her to draw out, look over, and read when she feels down or just wants a smile. It's far reaching and never fails to make her look fondly upon you, sending great vibes of adoration for you in return.

Here are some of my favorites, and on a day like today, I'm happy to have them:

~Oh My GOD, what a way to start a book!!!!! You are the master of hooking a reader from the first sentences! Flora is an incredible heroine. Ian, well, I fell in love with him. The secondary characters are marvelous. I've read the book twice!

~I've peaked at the first pages already and the opening of the story is hilarious, it draws you straight into it. I'm so gonna enjoy it!

~Their chemistry is off the charts. I loved the humor in this book, I laughed out loud more than once.

~Your talent has caused something amazing to happen - I loved it so much that I'm practically speechless!!!!!!!!!!

~Just finished Bad Boys, Bad Boys and all I can say is AWESOME book.
~I have to say, you are the first author I am sending an email to with praise on my fingertips. Your story moved me to that level of joy.
Now seriously, do you see anything in there that wouldn't make a gal smile?? I'm just sayin'.

Congratulations! I'm sure your reviews and sales tell you plenty, but it's not nearly as personal as getting direct contact like that from readers. Kudos.

Ok, should I confess here that I'm rereading Bad Boys, Bad Boys for, um, the 4th time... or so? And that I included it as one of my comfort reads over at Well Read? And that I appreciate its clever hotness every time I read it?

/ends pathetic fangirl moment
